The author has covered basically all the aspects of the diet i.e. mindset, precautions, designing a diet that sticks etc. I especially liked the part where he has prepared a grocery list for keto diet so that you don’t have to mull over that area and quickly shop for your diet in a jiffy. Honestly I have not tried his recipes yet but they seem delicious & tempting at the first glance!

Tragedies of the Rich and Famous

Blood Brothers is a 1994 look at the then-current Menendez brothers murder trial. It is an easy book to read with a lot of "hooks" to keep you going - even if you know how the story ends.

One of the best things about the book is the cast of characters. If you created these people as fictional characters no one would believe you. People simply would assume that these people were too fantastic to be real:
* Jose Menendez, the domineering Cuban immigrant determined to build a Kennedy-like family empire,
* Lyle & Eric, the privileged, murderous sons,
* Leslie Abramson, the fiery, confrontational defense attorney with the unkempt hair
* Dr. Oziel, Erik's psychologist and his paramour, Judalon Smyth

Aside from the characters, there are plenty of other things to keep you going: sex, burglary, Beverly Hills, & murder. The authors do a great job of keeping the pages turning. They even manage to keep your interest when they describe the trial. I find that true crime books often bog down in too much minutiae when they get to the trial.

My complaint about the book is the ending. The authors published their book between the two trials, so you are left hanging by the end. It would be great to have an update with the second trial & the dozen years since the case and its characters faded from view.

Description of a good book, that's well worth reading.

This book deals with the first trial of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were accused of murdering their rich parents. It examines very well the background of both the father and mother, and describes very detailed what happened when the brothers shotgunned their parents. One thing the book fails to do, is give an answer as to why it happened. This would also be nearly impossible to do, but it does provide several key facts that might help one to reach a conclusion.

Soble & Johnson are fabulous writers, leaving one "chilled" after a brief read of the Preface alone. In addition to their powerful prose, the authors provide a very equalized, thorough discussion of Erik and Lyle Menendez and the events leading up to their parents' slaying. Though one gets the feeling that they harbored little sympathy for the brothers, the authors' portrayal of "both sides of the story" -- from Erik's recounted sexual abuse to Lyle's statement that it was not about "manslaughter or life sentences" but about "winning or losing" -- allows the reader to do what in the end 3 juries had to do: decide just which story one believes.

She is so well written that even while I despised her I couldn't help admire the author for bringing her so perfectly to life. After having lost my heart a little to Lord Blackwood in the previous story I was so disappointed that he fell for Letitia's machinations so easily. If I was Prudence I'm not sure I wouldn't have given him a much bigger show of temper on more than one occasion. It was nice to catch up with a few of the characters from the previous story and to meet a few more entertaining new ones. I would recommend reading the previous story first as this isn't really much of a romance if you do not as the connection was made in the first adventure. Thank you for visiting my Amazon book page. I love writing Regency romance and am always glad when a new idea pops into my head for another sparkling, witty romance. The Dangerous Duke, my first romance novel, was written for fun, to entertain my mother who was a huge romance fan, but in particular of Regency romance. From there, more ideas came with more characters clamouring to have their chance to shine in their very own book. When not writing, I try to relax with walking the (always keen) dogs, movies, theatre, travel (when I can afford it), meeting up with friends, and (of course) reading!  I love reading generally so most books spark my interest. I devoured all my mother's historical romances (Jean Plaidy, Georgette Heyer etc.) while at school, but developed a love of classic writers such as the Bronte sisters, Jane Eyre, and George Eliot as well. I adore a good story. I don't care if it has been told before; as long as the author has compelling and interesting characters, it will grab me. She was inside the house in seconds, and making her way upstairs to Charles' room. He wasn't there, but she could hear him talking to someone, probably the valet, in his dressing room. She undressed, rolled her clothing and shoes into her cloak, and hid the bundle behind the long brocade drapes at the window. Her skin tingled as the night chill crept along her limbs. A fire burned in the grate but she was cold so far away from the welcoming flames. She could see the bed through a chink in the curtains. In a few minutes, Charles came into the room, stripped off his dressing gown, got between the sheets, blew out his candle, and pulled the covers over his shoulders. This was her moment.
She ran lightly to the other side, lifted the covers, and slipped into bed, winding her arms and legs around his body. Oh, his hard, muscular body felt so good. The sensation of his skin on hers made her gasp with desire. She'd forgotten how appealing, how irresistible he was. In all their passion, she had never touched his naked flesh. His prudish sense of discretion had made him impervious to the temptation of anything more than long sucking kisses and much fondling, albeit clothed.
Letitia enjoyed only seconds of the pleasure before he leaped out of the bed like a scalded cat, grabbed the poker from the fireplace, and held it out in front of him.
"In God's name, what is this? Who are you?"
Letitia lit the candle. His body was magnificent, like a statue of those Greek athletes she'd seen in galleries. Not an ounce of spare flesh, only rippling muscles, and his proudly jutting masculinity was a pleasure for any hot-blooded woman to see. She had waited so long for this and just the sight of him meant it would be worth it. Her body tingled as a thrill of arousal flared. A little pool of pleasure formed inside her.

enjoyable fast read that I didn't put it down until I finished the book.

Regency and Historical Romance novels happen to be some of my favorite genres so I am a little harder when I read authors that write these. You can read this one even if you have not read the prequel, but you will not get the full background of Patience and Charles starting love, so I would definitely recommend reading the prequel.

You know when you have this annoying thing in your past that seems to haunt you well Charles has more than just a thing he has an Ex-fiancé, Letitia, that everyone thought was dead and he was madly in love with. She is back for blood or should I say for Charles and will stop at nothing to get him back. The author definitely threw a twist in this one but didn't stop with just one, she kept you on the edge of your seat as little secrets of the past kept crawling out of their little black holes. The way she did it was a perfect written and showed the true nature of everyone. Question here is will Patience let Letita win or will she get out of her shell to go head to head with Letita? And after everything Letitia has done will Charles go back to her? Well, that is where a twist may come into place and I can not spoil the book for you.

This was such an enjoyable fast read that I didn't put it down until I finished the book. Another amazing gem by the author that others should know about.

For Once I Did NOT Want The Obvious HEA!

This was the best romance I've read in some time, despite mixed emotions about the characters and the ending. Oh the ending is the usual HEA, no spoiler in that I think; but I would have liked an alternate ending. In fact at about the halfway point, I wanted to write the ending myself! It would have ended right there with Patience walking away from Lord Blackwood and never looking back.

After declaring his admiration for Patience Cherwell in the previous novella, Lord Blackwood welcomed back his long-lost sweetie, Letitia DeVere, previously thought dead, and expected Patience to befriend her. He completely fell for Letitia again, and as for Patience? He didn't trust her and didn't believe her, instead believing her capable of extreme violence -- and all at the instigation of the scheming Letitia. He only relented when presented with convincing evidence (from Letitia's sister!) that Patience was innocent. Lord Blackwood's professed love for Patience didn't ring true for me. He did not deserve her. And while her set-down of him was about as satisfying as it could be, still I couldn't help wishing she had made him suffer more and possibly even dumped him and gone for the other fellow, the one who picked her up and comforted her when Blackwood abandoned her.

But I have to admit, I enjoyed every moment of this and could not put it down until I finished. Very well written and well plotted.

Fan for life!!

I love the plot and the characters. I couldn't put it down once I started. I was sad to see the story end and each character is so well rounded and interesting that they each should have a story of their own. I hope Letitia finds her happy ending, I hope Mr.Calhoun has a story of his own as well as Letitia two younger sisters and brothers......this is the beginning of a great DeVere Family Series I hope!! Each volume contains an introduction to the two principal controversies that spurred St Cyprian to write his defense on church unity: first, the readmission to the Eucharist of those Christians who had lapsed or fallen in the persecution under Emperor Decius; and second, the sacramental validity of baptism in heretical and schismatic communities.

A Little Gem

Allen Brent does a wonderful job of presenting this volume on St. Cyprian's comments on the Church. Cyprian is important because he gives us one of the earliest glimpses into the organization of the church as he strives to respond to the predominantly pagan culture in which he lived and ministered. Cyprian provides a model of how contemporary pastors/theologians/bishops could interact with their cultures. It is important to note that at this early stage, the Church was still very "charismatic"; this is seen early in the treatise "To Donatus". Brent does well also to note that Cyprian's view of the episcopate was influenced more by the setting of the Roman imperium of his city than by the Scriptures, from which Cyprian was trying to argue.

On a further note, "The Popular Patristics Series" is an inexpensive medium into the writings of the early Church Fathers

Cyprian helps the church navigate through troubled waters

Cyprian was a leader in the church in the aftermath of a great wave of persecution. Many Christians had denied Jesus in order to escape martyrdom. Now that the persecution had passed, the church had to decide what to do with these "lapsed." Should they be welcomed back in right away? Should they be forever shut out of the church as traitors to the faith? Do you take a stand for grace and forgiveness, or for holiness and truth?

This book collects four treatises by Cyprian as he tries to lead the church through these contentious issues. The first two are written to the outside world, and the last two deal specifically with issues related to the lapsed.
"To Donatus" - appeals to pagans that they should convert to Christianity in order to escape the corruption of the present age
"To Demetrian" - defends Christianity from accusations, saying that it's actually pagan idolatry responsible for the sad state of the world
"The Fallen" - answers the question of how the lapsed should be readmitted to the church
"The Unity of the Catholic Church" - rallies other church leaders together, appealing for the church to have one united response instead of the division it currently faced.

I thoroughly enjoyed this edition of Cyprian's writings. It was my first time reading this author, and I plan on spending much more time with his works. And the Popular Patristics series rarely disappoints.

Comprehensive Title

I am doing research in the area of wind energy in buildings, and this book is a great read. The organization of the book is just right, and and information you get is up-to-date. I have benefited a lot from it and it is one of my important references. The language is straight forward and technical ideas are simplified to be clearly understood
I highly recommend this book for those who are interested to understand the wind energy option for buildings and urban environment.

Not as good as it was disturbing and depressing

I get that this is an accurate account of the life of a raging drug addict, but as a drug counselor I found it disturbing and depressing. One of the guys at my rehab saw me with it and asked if he could read it when I'm done. Um.......no.

new favorite book.

It's been a few weeks since I finished Wasting Talent, and Damien Cantwell feels like a bad dream I can't shake. This book was written in such an up close and personal way it is hard to break away from it without feeling as if the main character is someone you know, someone you wish you didn't have to know and watch struggle. The depiction of drug addiction was so accurate, I at times felt the need to check my hands to see if they were shaking because my own memory of withdrawal was brought with such force to the front of my mind - I couldn't stop nodding my head along with the main character, mouthing the words 'I get it, man'. Let me be clear, I absolutely loved every minute of this book and I identified with the main character so strongly it made it difficult to put down. Leone perfectly captures the inner dilemma and lack thereof when faced with an addiction that quiets all other aspects of self- there is no such thing as a moral compass anymore, yet in brief moments you see a glimmer of the person Cantwell could have been, started out to be, and it becomes even more heartbreaking than it already was. It is impossible to stop rooting for him, despite everything he does, which is what I find the most accurate of all. Cantwell is that best friend in your life you just want to get better, who you believe in and support against all odds, fighting for them because you see the immeasurable talent within them that could provide them a life of happiness and freedom if only they were willing to let it, if only they could begin to fathom a life without drugs. I love this book, and while it is a fictional novel, I have yet to come across something more honest and accurate to the drug addicted lifestyle, and how it changes people. I found it impossible to not understand Damien, his sense of humor, and his reasoning behind all actions. The urgency in which he administers drugs in situations with heightened stress and danger, as well as situations with virtually none at all- how they parallel, how he acknowledges that this is no longer a desire it is a NEED, that there is something inside him that he needs to kill and that can only be accomplished with a complicated series of drugs and alcohol that he understands the effects of too well. Damien is an excellent example of what it is to be a drug addict, to love a drug addict, and to have your heart broken by a drug addict - over and over and over again.
