Step above the 1st edition

I bought the 1st edition about 6 months ago to supplement my didactic year coursework. Comparing the 2nd edition to the 1st edition (which was already incredibly well-written and concise) it is a step above the rest. I highly recommend this book to anyone PA student whether in didactic or clinical rotations looking to reinforce the material and pick out the most salient points in clinical presentation and diagnosis.

Just started using this book last week and I'm in love. I'm now in clinical rotations for PA school and wish I had had this book during the didactic year. Awesome charts and a perfect layout that really highlights the pertinent info.

A MUST have for Didactic, clinicals, & PANCE!

As a PA student, I bought the first edition of this book a year ago to supplement my didactic classes right from the get-go. I read through the book almost twice with each module (except two sections since we hadn't had it yet), it helped me refocus on the high yield from my classes! When I opened the new edition, I could tell right away that it surpassed the first edition; the first things I noticed was the updated the information, reorganized sections, and an added, stand-alone pediatric module.

I cannot sufficiently express how much this book has helped me with classes. Each section breaks down the High Yield information with the MUST KNOW information commonly bolded, underlined, italicized, etc. While this book is excellent, it is in no means a substitution for your course material. I have recommended this book to all my classmates and students in our incoming classes. Hopefully I'll update my review after I take the PANCE.

The first statistics book i've ever read for pleasure...

I bought this book as a cheap international edition because, er, it was cheap. It turned out to be an excellent reference for understanding many useful concepts in multivariate analysis, and as another reviewer said, it clarifies many of the ideas with real examples. Because the style is so accessible, I ended up reading it as much out of interest as the need to learn about all the techniques. It lacks the rigor of some other texts, but there are plenty of them out there to refer to for more concrete proofs if you need them. Read this to understand the techniques...

In depth, but easy to understand.

"Analyzing Multivariate Data" is not just one the of the best multivariate data analysis texts available, but also one of the best structured text books that I have ever seen. After providing an introductory discussion of the prerequisite materials (namely matrices and regression analysis), Lattin, Carroll and Green cover all of the expected areas of multivariate analysis, specifically: principal components analysis, factor analysis, multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis, canonical correlation, structural equation models, analysis of variance, discriminant analysis and logit choice models. What makes this book stand out from other, similar, text books is how the material is structured. In each chapter, the authors explain all of the relevant mathematics behind the techniques, but also explain the concepts in laymans terms. Important questions are posed and answered, such as "when should this technique be used?" and worked examples are given. Furthermore, at the end of each chapter, the main points are summarized in point form and a large number of exercises are provided. The only drawback I can see is that the solutions to the exercises are not provided.

Even though this text covers material at a reasonably high level (this book would be suitable for later year undergraduates or graduate students), this is still an extremely user-friendly textbook. I just wish more texts were this well written.

Excellent bridge between practical use and rigor.

Analyzing Multivariate Data by Lattin, Carroll, and Green fills an important niche in practical statistics for the applied researcher. For a purely conceptual introduction, Sam Kash Kachigan (Multivariate Statistical Analysis) or Joseph Hair et al (Multivariate Data Analysis) are excellent references; for more rigorously mathematical approaches, Johnson & Wichern's and Donald Morrison's texts are excellent. Analyzing Multivariate Data bridges those two poles. The rigorous texts teach how to twirl matrices around like a flaming baton, but unless the researcher has insight into the art and science of the applications of the multivariate methods little will be understood. This is particularly important if the researcher uses point-and-click stat packages. For the applied researcher and grad student who want to know how and when to use the multivariate methods but want accessible supporting mathematics as well, this book is exceptional. I use it to explain the applications of the mathematically intensive methods I am learning in a grad multivariate class.

It Just keeps getting better

Again: Hooray for a cover that has a "feel" that matches the story! Intense.Dark.And Beautiful :)

Capture starts off with intensity, picking up where Reveal ends. Prom night, Terror.. and Running for their lives!

Thankfully, Hugh knows of a safe haven. A place where the darkness cannot track them. Here is where we meet a multitude of new Cryptids! Why and how you ask? Oh ya know... Shay just kinda invited them in * shrug* But it turns out it's all for the best. They need an army. Shay and Hugh may have a destiny. But it won't matter if they can't survive long enough to fulfill it !

I loved Capture. It was filled with so much action, adventure and love that, well I could not put it down! Less than 2 hours after opening it up, I closed it with shock on my face, Wanting more!

In this part of the story we learn that Cryptids are not just super special humans that can shift into animals. But much more diverse. A harpy who I grew to love. A lizard like man, A Moth man- ya you read right! Oh and Centars! As well as so many more. It was awesome! I was giddy with excitement getting to learn about each different cryptid and their "quirks" right along with Shay.

#2 in Brina Courtney's Cryptid Tales series will have you laughing, gripping the pages, swooning, and going " What the heck" In a short time period and leave you begging for more. Like me .. I ... Need... MORE lol

What do I wish there was more of in Capture?.. PAGES >.< It was over so quickly. But I can't deny that it was a well rounded story for it's length.

This Series WILL have a big fan base. I predict it.. It will happen. Such an interesting tale, with a plethora of characters and twists.. cannot be overlooked !

Picks right off where first book ends

This book begins right where the first one ends, Shay and Hugh at the Senior Shuffle. Erica, one of the meanies from book two and several of her minions show up. She tries to capture Shay and Hugh but Olivia to the rescue. Shay and Hugh along with Olivia get away. They drop her off and tell her that she doesn't know them. This part makes me sad, as Olivia was my favorite character from book one in the series. They of course hide and regroup- with several other cryptids joining forces. The new characters help her to fight Malsumis and his followers. Since this is the second in series you know of course that there is no resolution between Shay and Malsumis yet. But the second book was fast paced and with more action. So that was a plus. Another thing that the author has going for her is that there is still no love triangle. Praise all that is holy! Although Shay and Hugh could cut back on telling each other I Love You just a little.

The story had soo much potential. I knew the first book, Reveal, was short but it had more description than this one. I did not feel that there was any character development in this one and it resolved the conflict abruptly in the last chapters as loudly as simply putting The End would.

Information is Lacking - Way Over Priced!

First of all, there is no justification for the price of this book. This is a $15 paperback at best. Unfortunately, the professors at any given educational facility seem to endorse this kind of rip-off. Aside from giving a basic overview of the laws with regard to Human Resource Management, this book lacks any meaningful or valueable information. Much of the information presented is obvious and poorly supported. To get a basic understanding of HR Management, as this book presents, I would recommend finding a much cheaper alternative.

Misleading Cover.....

I can assure you that this book will not teach you to shrink a boat and place it within glass. It will also not teach you how to be a one eyed pirate either. Now if you happen to hire a one eyed pirate who has a sexual harassment case which entails a glass boat and a mini boat.....then you will be fully prepared to deal with this situation after reviewing the contents of this book.

About the Author
Stephen A. Maisto received a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee and completed a post-doctoral respecialization in clinical psychology from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. He is a professor of psychology at Syracuse University. He has been engaged in research, teaching, clinical practice, and clinical training in the assessment and treatment of the substance-use disorders for over 30 years. Dr. Maisto has published over 150 articles, 25 book chapters, and several books on substance use and the substance-use disorders. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, Association for Psychological Science, Research Society on Alcoholism, and the Association for Behavior and Cognitive Therapies.

Mark Galizio received his PhD in experimental psychology in 1976, from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee, where he served as the research assistant at the Midwest Institute on Drug Abuse. He is professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he has taught and conducted research for over 30 years. He has published extensively in the areas of behavioral pharmacology and behavior analysis and has served as associate editor of the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, and is past president of the division of Behavior Analysis.

Gerard J. Connors is director of the Research Institute on Addictions at the University at Buffalo. He earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University in 1980. Dr. Connors' research interests include substance use and abuse, relapse prevention, self-help group involvement, early interventions with heavy drinkers, and treatment evaluation. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Connors has authored or coauthored numerous scientific articles, books, and book chapters.

It served its purpose

This text was required for a course I'm taking. It was 0.50 cheaper than the USED book being sold by the college and I purchased the new text from AMAZON.COM. As a substance abuse couselor by trade and knowledgeable about many things found it refreshing to learn more and have current and relavent information included. The only thing I think should be changed is at the begining of each chapter is a True/False Q&A entitled "What do you think?" and the answers are explained at the end of the chapter. What do you think is MY opinion(subjective) vs. objective Q&A and and it should be included but maybe titled something different.

the book was so nice. I mean

I bought used book, it said the book is 'acceptable'. However, the book was so nice. I mean, the cover was kind of folded, but who care? In side of the book was totally cleaned and I couldn't find any pencil or pen checked on the pages. I loved it, I saved near 85% of the money !!!
