About the Author

Dr. Vicky Katsoni is an Associate Professor at the Tourism Department of the Technological Educational Institute(TEI) of Athens (Greece). She is also teaching at the Greek Open University at the MSc program of Tourism Management. She holds a PhD in Tourism Marketing Management and ICT Applications in Tourism, an MBA and a BA (Hons) in Economics. Having worked for over twenty years as an academic in the tertiary education, Dr. Katsoni is well-versed in academic multi-disciplinary research and has participated in several European and National research projects. Her research interests include tourism marketing, digital tourism, ICTs and tourist development, special forms of tourism and consumer behavior. She has published 9 books on tourism, chapters in edited volumes, and numerous papers in peer-reviewed academic journals. She is president of the nonprofit "International Association of Cultural and Digital Tourism" and member of the editorial board of many scientific journals in tourism and marketing.

Dr. Anastasia Stratigea is an Associate Professor at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Department of Geography and Regional Planning. She is also teaching at the MSc Program of “Environment and Development”, NTUA, Athens. She has a Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a PhD from National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Her PhD has focused ICTs and Regional Development. She has participated in a number of EU and National Projects relating to planning and policy in the energy, tourism, agricultural and transport sectors. She has published her work in a number of international conferences and journals. She is reviewer in a number of International Journals. She is member of a variety of scientific networks (NECTAR, COST A22, EFONET, SMARTMED etc.). Her research interests are focusing on Sustainable Development, Spatial Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Regional Development and Policy, Tourism and Regional Development,, Sustainable Tourism, Tourism Planning, Smart Tourism, and the Management of Cultural and Natural Resources.

Horrible

This is an earlier book and I understand that societal norms have changed a lot, but this book really was horrible. Basically, here's what happens in the book:

A long time ago, Annie was the golden child of the entertainment industry. She goes to a party at Adamas' house where she drinks and gets almost raped by his brother-in-law. Thanks to the tabloids and Adamas' selfish and disgusting family, Annie is flayed alive by the press. Result: she changes her image from golden girl to seductress.

Fast forward several years and she and her half-brother Todd are just embarking on a new modeling contract for Annie when she is literally kidnapped by Adamas and taken to his private island where he rapes her. His reason? Because he's been lusting after her. Also, because his cousin, who is also a model, was dating Todd until she couldn't get over her jealousy over Annie and Todd dumped her. Anyway, Annie is stuck on the island, attracted to Adamas and the two continue to have sex, while Adamas is trying to take Annie off her new modeling contract so that he can give it to his worthless cousin instead.

Ending: the two end up living happily ever after after Adamas confesses his love to Annie, but not until after he's taken the lucrative modeling contract away from Annie and given it to his cousin.

Now, I don't have much problems with forced seduction tales and quite frankly, all Harlequin romances involve the forced seduction. However, this one really was rape and Adamas is just so very unlikeable. There is nothing rational about him, he made a stupid promise to his cousin and instead of stopping his revenge against Annie afer he realized he was wrong about her, he continued to keep her prisoner on his island until she succumbed to his "request" to remove herself from her modeling contract. Which she never did. Instead, that was also forciblly taken from her. He forces her to marry him, she sees the candid wedding photos and realizes that he loves her and she loves him back. Stupid story about a stupid girl with no backbone and ruthless man who gets whatever he wants without taking into account any one else's considerations.

As for Todd, the half-brother, he's the only character that I did like. I understand that he actually did like the worthless cousin and Annie made a sacrifice by not telling him the truth about her, but again, Annie is stupid so I don't think she should be allowed to make any decisions. After all, deciding to marry an insecure scheming b---- after knowing all the facts because you really love her is a decision that he should be allowed to make after getting all the facts. She and her family are all ruthless. Being a part of it doesn't guarantee protection for yourself--a fact that stupid Annie would have realized if she had any brains.

The morning after

Worst book I have ever read. This book was horrible. I give it negative stars. Not only does the premise of the book not make sense, the actions of the characters don't work. Annie sleeps with this guy, finds out what a horrible person he really is, and then gives up the modelling contract? Adamas has a hidden agenda throughout the entire book and if he really loves annie so much, why is he trying to push his cousins agenda? It doesn't make sense. I actually read this book on my kindle and came to the amazon website to write my first review ever because I was SOOOOO disappointed. Truly the worst book I have ever read. I cannot adequately describe my disappointment...

Good, but not great

From the back: Cesar DeSanquez was right about Annie's beauty: it has made her into an international supermodel. But the only life about to be ruined was Annie's - by Cesar! In reality, she was a shy virgin, but Cesar preferred to believe in her glossy image. He passionately believed that she had torn apart his family in the space of a night. And now, in the cold light of dawn, he wanted his revenge!
This is probably one of my least favorite Reids. Ultimately, I just couldn't help wishing that Annie had found a better guy, which doesn't bode well for the story. Nonetheless, it had the same passion and intensity that I have come to love from all Reid novels.

You don't have to pay for it

This is a fine Bible but before you buy one I would recommend that you simply ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses. At least in the US they don't charge for them, you can donate for it you choose but it is whatever you feel you can afford

It is what it is

I am by no means a Bible scolar or a religious person, but I enjoy reading the Bible and collecting the various translations. In short, this is the Bible of the Jehovah's Witnesses. The book itself is suprisingly well made, the covers and binding feel very strong and the paper is excellent with almost no ghosting issues. There are evangelical bits at the front of the book aimed at non-JWs and a large amount of material at the back which includes a concordance, dictionary, maps, and explinations of weights and measures. It also contains a very exustive section on how the Bible was "translated". I put that word it quotation marks because I highly question the fact that this is an actual translation. Seeing that none of the "translators" knew any Hebrew or Greek (one did, but his knowledge was very rudimentary), and based on the wording of the text, I would consider this a clever paraphrase that has been doctored to suit the JWs beliefs. That being said, if you are interested in learning more about the religion, this is an excellent reasource. The readability is excellent and clear, all in modern English. There isn't much different about this Bible from others aside from the various heresies that are inserted at various points (For example, John 1:1 reads "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with god, and the word was A god"), so this is a good reasource to see just how the JWs are able to back up some of their beliefs. If you are a serious reader of the Bible though, stay as far away as you can, this is NOT an accurate translation by any means. But it is what it is, and if enjoying other religions is your thing, this is an excellent reasource.

As a Seventh Day Adventist, I bought this to review how the JW Render their bibles... I like to study many interpretations and how others faith are perceived. There are some interesting facts about Jewish history and proper calendar names which I found very interesting. They also have the SDA Nebuchadnezzar Statue artwork in their bible rendering the proper sections of the kingdoms (A+). I was also surprised that this bible proclaimed the proper links to the Nephilim in Gen 6 where as teh SDA's link it to the sons of Seth which I totally disagree with. For some reason the SDA's does not believe in (I Do). I was also surprised that their back end dictionary as well as rendered text proclaimed the proper Seventh Day as the Sabbath. I wonder why they do not follow it? I do know some JW's who also look at the Catholic Church as Babylon which is our top teaching in the SDA Church along with the 3 Angels Messages. But why do they keep her day of worship? The venerable day of the Sun enabled by Constantine in 321AD? As for the rest of the text rendered in this bible, I noticed many areas that was re-written which to me looks like it was done to agree with their theology. In my view parts of teh info in this book is a good resource but the bible itself is corrupted... If you are a serious bible student, stick with the Cambridge KJV.

About the Author
Kim Barnas has a Master's of Science in Health Care Administration and served as a Senior Vice President of ThedaCare and President of Appleton Medical Center and Theda Clark Medical Center.

Kim has enjoyed the opportunities provided by ThedaCare as they have been on their lean journey for the past nine years. The ThedaCare Improvement System (LEAN) path started with Value Stream mapping followed by improvement events, and projects. She was involved in leading two of the initial Value Streams for OB and Cancer Services.

As the journey continued, a new challenge emerged--the need for a systematic method to sustain improvement, clarify daily continuous improvement opportunities and deliver on strategic deployment. To meet this need, Kim and her team led the development of a management system. This lean management system is designed to deliver improved performance through a predictable process that develops leaders, identifies defects, solves problems and develops people. In 2014 Kim authored a book titled "Beyond Heroes, A Lean Management System for Healthcare" based on this journey.

Excellent

If you could judge a book by its cover, choose this one. The cover picture is delicious, and so is the book! The book will be like a mother to you - it guides you through each step as if no one had ever taught you carefully, sensitively enough, how to learn a language on your own. I say this book is not tedious because it doesn't ask you to simply figure that part (the self-teaching part) out all on your own. On the other hand, if you already know how to teach yourself, that's not a problem - just skim through those parts.

I have used Teach Yourself: Swahili by Joan Russell, Kiswahili Kwa Kitendo, and Swahili: A Foundation... by Hinnebusch, and I have already basically gone through two semester's worth of Swahili, but this one put together by native East Africans is my favorite and still has a lot to teach me after all that. It starts you out with a friendly introduction to each lesson, gives you a warm-up, and the dialogues are longer than in other courses, especially the non-audio ones. Dialogues also come with translations. As usual, there's a list of vocab and, like Teach Yourself, there's a list of key phrases, but unlike Teach yourself, they are more than just translations from the dialogue. Culture notes are a lot of fun and quite elaborate and practical:

"When you get to your table, you won't find napkins (tishu) waiting there for you. Napkins are generally available at the restaurant counter, and customers help themselves. Don't be surprised if you see other customers eating with their hands; this is acceptable table manners in many parts of the world. If you choose to eat with your hand, be sure to use your right hand, as eating with the left hand is considered to be at least odd, if not downright rude and unhygienic, especially in Muslim communities... When you're ready to pay the bill, simply ask naomba kulipa (can I pay?)..."

There are also readings which come in Swahili with English translation. These readings are simpler than in other courses, which makes them less tedious - I'm not sure if that means you get less out of it. Then there are grammar notes. There are the exercises, which are plentiful and simple; answer key at the end of the lesson. Finally, there's an independent study box in each lesson which just suggests how you can enhance your learning experience, but it's a good reminder if you are bad about keeping up with journals and the like, or if you've never studied a language before.

The audio is much better than Teach Yourself: the voices are clearer, with better enunciation. Also, Teach Yourself fills up half of the recordings with annoying English-speakers who are just telling you about the dialogue, which Living Language doesn't do. You end up with about 12 times more audio than Teach Yourself. There are two sections to the audio: one you listen to along with the lesson, the other is supplemental and can be listened to any time.

Another great thing about this course is that it's brand new and very modern! Each lesson has a salient theme, which is drilled into you by its recurrence in each part of the lesson. And there are a lot of parts to each lesson - it's very elaborate! Unique to this book is its inclusion of a lesson on internet language. This course doesn't look very long, and although I have only glanced at most of it, it seems unlikely to be quite as thorough as Hinnebusch. If you are very intent on learning the language, it couldn't hurt to have both Hinnebusch and this book, but this one would be my first recommendation for the independent learner.

The best one yet!

During a recent visit to Tanzania I became fascinated with the people there and with Swahili. In my enthusiasm and desire to learn Swahili in the most elegant way possible, I purchased about 8 books and 3 audio programs. When I happened upon this book listing in Amazon.com I almost didn't buy it thinking that I already had more books than I needed. However, I was intrigued by the first reader's review and decided to take a chance on it. I was not dissapointed!!! I totally agree with the first review. This book and set of tapes is the clearest and most "user-friendly" program to date. I am very pleased with the style and extremely well-integrated teaching process. If, unlike me, you want to buy only ONE book - I would recommnend this one.

This book is simply amazing. I am in complete agreement with the first two people who commented on it. As they have already done an excellent job of describing it, I just wanted to put forward another positive opinion.

The book is very easy to use, very informational about the language and culture, and guides you very smoothly throughout, ultimately leading you to a strong intermediate level in Swahili. This book was immensely fun to use, and my motivation for studying the language dropped off quite a bit, because I knew that my remaining resource at that point was Teach Yourself Swahili, which isn't nearly as good.

I had used much of this book and TY Swahili before going to Tanzania for two weeks in July, and I can say that it was very helpful and the people I met there were incredulous at my abilities in the language. I credit my success in Swahili to this book and I think it is a must-have for all learners of Swahili!
