10 years later...Miller's Review still the best, and better now.

Miller's review orthopedics got me through residency and initial board certification for Ortho surgery ten years ago. 10 years later the new edition is even better. Better organized, better diagrams, better photos. Terrific testable concept chapter summaries. Great OITE or re/certification preparation.

Terrible formatting makes it almost impossible to read

I was excited to discover a Kindle version of the Miller Review so I could keep the information handy in my white coat pocket. However, I've gotten very little use out of it. The content is the same as the print book, and should be useful as a quick overview of topics, but the layout of the Kindle version is horrendous, making it distracting and difficult to read. Extremely disappointed that the publisher didn't seem to put in any effort forth to actually adapt the content for e-readers.

About the Author

Daniel T. Larose earned his PhD in Statistics at the University of Connecticut. He is Professor of Mathematical Sciences and Director of the Data Mining programs at Central Connecticut State University. His consulting clients have included Microsoft, Forbes Magazine, the CIT Group, KPMG International, Computer Associates, and Deloitte, Inc. This is Larose’s fourth book for Wiley.

Chantal D. Larose is a PhD candidate in Statistics at the University of Connecticut. Her research focuses on the imputation of missing data and model-based clustering. She has taught undergraduate statistics since 2011, and has done statistical consulting for DataMiningConsultant.com, LLC.

Excellent Walkthrough Introduction to Data Science/Data Mining

What a great introduction to Data Science! I just completed my undergrad in Applied Mathematics and am beginning a graduate degree in Data Mining. I bought this book because it is necessary for my program. I am surprised at how much I enjoy reading this book. First of all, it is written in a way that informs while not overwhelming. There are plenty of examples and graphics throughout the book that add up to make for a walkthrough more than a talking to. I also like that Dr. Larose is a Statistician. He offers insights that can only be gained from understanding the underlying mathematics behind Data Science. I find that as I read through it, and I work through the R exercises and the Hands On Data exercises, I am becoming more confident and optimistic about my future as a Data Scientist. Of course, further study is necessary, but Discovering Knowledge in Data:... is an excellent beginning.

Landscape of the American Southwest-A View

He was Utah's first Poet Laureate and has won a string of prestigious awards and only recently retired as chair of the Dept. of Humanities, Languages, and Literature at Southern Utah University. This is his fifteenth book of poetry and the first to explore in depth what has always been in the background of his work-the desert and canyon country of the Back of Beyond in the American Southwest.Thus, this book is his effort to honor the heartbreaking beauty of, and despair for the destruction of, his beloved homeland. The book is divided into four sections or basic elements consisting of earth, fire, water, and air. Beginning at dawn and continuing throughout the day in a walking journey the reader is treated to Lee's theological, philosophical, and environmental meditations. The book opens and closes with a requiem and provides landscape portraits that reach far beyond the traditional "regional poetry." Lee simply see's things "out there" commonly missed by others. Please Make Sure Your Description of the Book Is at Least Grammatically Correct and Understandable!

The author's description of his book is intended to entice me to actually read the book. If I have problems with the description, I suspect I will have even worse problems with the book itself. Here's the first sentence of this book's description: "Danny and his new wife are enjoying their honeymoon when his wife gets called back to work due to a string of murders that miraculously happened since they left two days prior."

A STRING OF MURDERS THAT MIRACULOUSLY HAPPENED? Perhaps I'm dense but how can murders be miraculous? Much less a miraculous string of murders?

HAPPENED SINCE THEY LEFT TWO DAYS PRIOR? Is "happened in the two days since they left" what is meant here.

another great read.

I have been reading for years and more often then not I find the ending predictable within the first half of the book. Again, Matt left me guessing right up not the end. The author is creative in his character building leaving enough room to keep it interesting. I am looking forward to his next book and many future ones to come.
